Protégé (GMA 7) Second Elimination Night

I enjoyed this weeks Gala performances compared to last week when all the Protégés, except for Nomer, were all nervous and lacked focus.

Samantha Leaves Protege

Samantha is the second protege to be eliminated based on text votes and judges' score. Her performance tonight was not as good as her first one. She looked like she had apprehensions about tonight's elimination that showed in her performance. Judge Louie Ocampo (composer) said, "hindi nag-jive yung kinanta niya sa kanyang character...."

Samantha topped the Dagupan auditions. Her mentor was Joey Generoso of Side A.

The Gala Performances

  1. Nomer sang "If I Had You" by Adam Lambert. Nomer didn't like the song but he managed to nail it. This boy is fearless. His advantage is that, being a kid, whatever song he sings, he gives it a different flavor even if he stuck to the original arrangement."So far, ikaw pa lang ang nakakuha sa akin," Cherie praised the boy. Cherrie Gil, a guest judge, continued though that this is not the song that he should be singing. Nevertheless, he was able to deliver the song even if, perhaps, he didn't understand the song.
  2. Jensen sang Lady Gaga's "You and I". I thought she would be doing it ala Lady Gaga but instead she it a different flavor to match her personality. She did this number like a pro. I think Claire is a good mentor. Judge Louie said, "best performance". Judge Cherie's first impression, "may dating ito."
  3. Krizza's song "Could Have Been" matched her song and personality. Among the girls, she has the best English diction. Judge Louie said "Ang ganda ng boses mo. Ang linis-linis...."
  4. So Wat's tonight's performance of Sting's "Every Breath You Take", for me, was their best so far though the judges remarked otherwise. They had a good start with their first note. It looked like they were able to rehearse completely.
  5. Lovely redeemed herself tonight. After two failures to impress the judges, she nailed it today. Judge Cherie exclaimed, "Wow!" that she was so impressed. I see Lovely as following the likes of Dulce and Bituin Escalante. She can be a modern Dione Warwick.
  6. Denise's diction has not improved tonight but her performance was a lot better compared to the lasttime. Judge Bert de Leon (Eat Bulaga's director) said, "masyadong safe ang song...."
  7. Judge Bert said "he was still holding back" that the judges could not see his potential. Kenneth's performance last week had more attitude but his performance tonight was a lot better vocally. Though he could really sing, I think he should be packaged as pop idol. Maybe, he should lose weight to make him more appealing and masculine to the audience.
  8. Lirah sounded better without a guitar. On the contrary, with the song chosen for her by another mentor, as Louie commented, she could have given her song an acoustic touch while playing the guitar. Janno is not grooming her as a "biritera" or belter. Cherie Gil agreed that mas bagay siya sa pop culture genre of todya rather than as belter. I could agree because Lirah's voice is like parang may holen sa bibig.
I think Nomer will continue to wow the audience and remain on top. My bottom three could be in danger next week unless they outperform the other Protégés.

Hating Kapatid: GMA Network's Short Film For Christmas

"Hating Kapatid" is a touching short film about two brothers who share the same pair of shoes and socks when going to school. One attends classes in the morning; the other in the afternoon. They meet in one store owned by an old woman where they exchange their footwear.

Endless Love - A Filipino Adaptation of Autumn in My Heart

Courtesy pinoyhalo.com "Autumn in My Heart" is a Korean TV series. When GMA Network aired it on Philippine TV, it started a trend. Pinoys went gaga over Koreanovelas. GMA renamed the characters as Jenny, Johnny, and Andrew. The three Korean stars became popular in their character names rather than in their Korean screen names. GMA7 also gave it a new title - "Endless Love" - for the reason that there's no autumn in the Philippines. Today premieres once again Autumn in my Heart aka Endless Love but this time as a Filipino adaptation starring Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, and Dennis Trillo. Three superstars in one show! It's surely a hit. If I were to rewrite some scenes in Autumn In My Heart In general, I enjoyed the pilot episode of Autumn In My Heart. I particularly like the scene where young Johnny and Jenny ride their bicycles on a long brick road fenced with bougainvilla bushes. I give praise to whoever found that place. The school location w

"Mahal Kita"

Here's another favorite song. "Mahal Kita", which means "I love you" was composed by Danny Tan. The original version was sung by Gerald Santos, Pinoy Pop Superstar grand champion of 2006. The female version was sung by Maricris Garcia, Pinoy Pop Superstar grand champion of 2007. The song is included in Gerald's first album "A Day on the Rainbow". The song is currently the love theme song of "Marimar", a Philippine remake of the Mexican tele-novela with the same title. In the Philippine version, Marian Rivera plays Marimar; Dingdong Dantes plays the the role of Sergio Santibanez. In Marimar, the female version is a response to the male version of the song. In dramatic scenes that focus on either Marimar's (Marian) or Sergio's (Dingdong) emotions, you'll either hear Gerald's or Maricris's version. "Marimar" is currently showing weeknights on GMA Channel 7. Here's Gerald's version of "Mahal Kita&q
