Protégé (GMA 7) Face-Off Winners Final Batch

C-Pilyo
From the mentors Joey Generoso of Side A, Gloc 9, and Rey Valera, three Protégé winners will complete the Top 10 Protégés. The Top 10 will be housed in one condominium unit where they will undergo training and mentoring called Boot Camp.

Denise Barbacena of Manila Wins

Gloc 9 mentored the mega Manila Protégés.
  • Denise Barbacena was chosen by the Judges despite her singing some lines out of tune, blame it to jitters, which she admitted. But among the three Protégés, Denise, being pretty, has the star potential to make it. Her voice has a good timbre; if she could only get rid of her being nervous every time she performs, she has a good edge.
  • Kristina Laguitan performed well. In fact, her performance was a lot better than Denise's. What Denise has that Kristina doesn't is the star potential. That doesn't mean however that Kristina cannot make a singing career. She just needs to build a star personality. She has to think and act like a wealthy star. With her talent, which is already ripe, she can surely make it.
  • Derf Cabael has an interesting character. He can make a career, not really like a star, but more like a good performer. He's an example of someone that people will like because of his vocal talent, not looks. There are music personalities who made it in the industry who became successful not by his looks but due to his talent.

SO WAT of Pampanga Wins

Rey Valera mentored the Pampanga Protégés. I think Pampanga produced the best Protégés with good potentials. It's sad to see the other groups leave especially the kid of C PILYO.
  • SO WAT is composed of two guys and two girls which Rey formed just during the audition. These four talents auditioned individually by Rey decided to group them. Unfortunately, the two girls didn't make it to Manila for the mentoring. A day before the face-off, the two girls showed up. With little time to rehearse, their performance suffered. They forgot their lyrics. Among the three groups, however, SO WHAT has the best vocal quality as individuals and as a group. Their voices blended well naturally. Their charming personalities complement their talents.
  • C PILYO is another interesting group. Individually, each one is good especially the young boy. They have interesting characters as well. Their performance however was nothing extraordinary for the reason that their voices did not blend well. Yujin, the young boy, can make an interesting singing career as a solo artist. The other four - Marco, Mark, Keith and Franz can make it as a group. I think they should continue singing as a group while improving their harmony.
  • ISAW is also an interesting group. It's diversity makes the group unique, which is a good success potential. Special mention goes to Renwich John Benito. He can break a career as an individual. Puede siyang isama sa Boot Camp.

Samantha Felizco of Dagupan Wins

Joey Generoso of Side A mentored the Protégés who auditioned in Dagupan.
  • Samantha Felizco delivered an upbeat performance. This is what made her win. She has a distinct voice, which is good.
  • Wilson Penaflor is likewise good. I think it's just a matter of having a personality that should complement his talent.
  • Aubrey Cabanlig definitely is a good singer with a powerful voice. If I would give her a score, it would be 4.5 stars. The advantage of Samantha over Aubrey is the former's young and upbeat personality. The generation today is not about Aubrey's genre, unfortunately.
Protégé is a show business. It has to earn. It has to attract fans. Therefore, the performers must have interesting characters that the viewing public will love. It's not just about a pretty face. It's more about their charismatic personality that complements a good talent. The Top 10 is a mix of genre and interesting personalities. It's a group that you will love to watch on TV. The judges made good choices. They really know what would click on TV.

Hating Kapatid: GMA Network's Short Film For Christmas

"Hating Kapatid" is a touching short film about two brothers who share the same pair of shoes and socks when going to school. One attends classes in the morning; the other in the afternoon. They meet in one store owned by an old woman where they exchange their footwear.

Endless Love - A Filipino Adaptation of Autumn in My Heart

Courtesy pinoyhalo.com "Autumn in My Heart" is a Korean TV series. When GMA Network aired it on Philippine TV, it started a trend. Pinoys went gaga over Koreanovelas. GMA renamed the characters as Jenny, Johnny, and Andrew. The three Korean stars became popular in their character names rather than in their Korean screen names. GMA7 also gave it a new title - "Endless Love" - for the reason that there's no autumn in the Philippines. Today premieres once again Autumn in my Heart aka Endless Love but this time as a Filipino adaptation starring Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, and Dennis Trillo. Three superstars in one show! It's surely a hit. If I were to rewrite some scenes in Autumn In My Heart In general, I enjoyed the pilot episode of Autumn In My Heart. I particularly like the scene where young Johnny and Jenny ride their bicycles on a long brick road fenced with bougainvilla bushes. I give praise to whoever found that place. The school location w

"Mahal Kita"

Here's another favorite song. "Mahal Kita", which means "I love you" was composed by Danny Tan. The original version was sung by Gerald Santos, Pinoy Pop Superstar grand champion of 2006. The female version was sung by Maricris Garcia, Pinoy Pop Superstar grand champion of 2007. The song is included in Gerald's first album "A Day on the Rainbow". The song is currently the love theme song of "Marimar", a Philippine remake of the Mexican tele-novela with the same title. In the Philippine version, Marian Rivera plays Marimar; Dingdong Dantes plays the the role of Sergio Santibanez. In Marimar, the female version is a response to the male version of the song. In dramatic scenes that focus on either Marimar's (Marian) or Sergio's (Dingdong) emotions, you'll either hear Gerald's or Maricris's version. "Marimar" is currently showing weeknights on GMA Channel 7. Here's Gerald's version of "Mahal Kita&q
