A temptress's role to a main character is not useless, rather it is significant. Often she is the story behind a story, or the keeper of a secret that makes up the main or another plot. She spices up the story to make it more entertaining for her audience. Sad to say, her role is often unnoticed. In real life, we have heard about powerful women who played significant roles in the lives of their husbands like Jacqueline Kennedy, Princess Grace of Monaco, and Princess Diana. In the controversial side, Imelda Marcos and Evita Peron likewise made a name for their husbands' sake. In ordinary lives, our siblings and best friends play the same role either to make us better persons or a bit the opposite. It is good to s...

Ang Yaman ni Amaya

Photo courtesy of GMA Network. "Jewel in the Palace" and "Jumong" are two Korean productions that I enjoyed watching. Through those productions, Korean TV was able to showcase its rich culture and traditions. Viewers outside Korea were able to appreciate the cultural history of Korea. I asked myself what culture can Filipinos boast of. Why is the Philippines not known for its cultural history and heritage? Filipino soap is all about mistresses, revenge, tragedy, bitchy women, and sadist men. If a soap does not contain these ingredients, it won't rate. Rarely that Filipino soap presents redeeming values that audience can learn from. A soap doesn't have to be corny to impart good values. That is the challenge to Filipino writers. These values can be subliminally presented if being corny is what writers are trying to avoid. When GMA Network aired Encantadia in 2005, Filipino audience enjoyed a different recipe of a good soap. Even men who were not f...

Machete is Axed

See price at Amazon Ang Katapusan Ni Machete Gone too soon. Hindi yan yung kanta ni Michael Jackson. I'm referring to Machete - the telenovela of GMA network. Was it about poor ratings the reason why it was axed too soon? Sayang naman. Pinaghandaan pa man din Aljur Abrenica yung character niya bilang Machete. May jinx kaya sa cast ng Machete? Sana huwag na niyang idamay ang iba pa. Kung ano ang itinanim, siyang bunga. Machete could have been a better drama. If it targeted a more mature audience, baka nag-click pa sa manonood. Maganda ang plot, and the production as well, pag ang eksena ay pinagmulan ni Machete. Yung modern time ang hindi ko gaanong gusto. Parang kulang. Parang mabagal. Pati acting, hindi okay. Bela's acting is worst. Ryza was over-acting. Pa-cute naman si Aljur. Si Rio Locsin lang ang magaling. Kung titignan mo, GMA Network risked an expensive production na kung saan ang main cast ay hindi pa subok sa primetime. Yung ibang artista ng GMA Network, bago...
