Tips for Daryl Celis

I hope Daryl Celis would be able to read this. I have some tips for him which might help improve his performances that will make his fans happier and make him worth voting for.

Hit the first note right

The first note is very important. The first note creates first impression. If you started with a bad note, most likely you will be singing out of tune. So how do you hit the exact note? Preparation. Before you hit the first note, sing it in your head. Once the exact note has registered in your brain, it follows vocally you will be singing the exact note. Don't worry about the brain's multi-tasking ability. The brain is superior at that. In microseconds before you produce the sound from your vocal chords, you can actually prepare it first in your head.

Sing with confidence

Performing on stage can be nerve-racking. The technique is to imagine an empty auditorium. Imagine you have no audience at all, that you're alone on stage. Avoid eye contact especially to those in the front rows. Don't mind the hundreds of eyes looking at you. So, with that, how do you communicate to your audience? One technique is to look at the camera as if the camera is unplug and not working. Sing to the camera and imagine it as someone else. Another technique is to look at the farthest wall behind the last row of the audience. That way you can trick your audience to having eye contact with them when in fact you're looking at a wall.

Sing from your heart

Feel the song. Understand the song. Feel the music. What is the music telling you? Then communicate the song to someone, who can be an imaginary being. Learn the lyrics beforehand and come up with a story. It can be a make-believe story or a story you can relate to. If you sing from your heart, the voice follows beautifully.

Let your facial muscles move

Your voice depends to a lot of body organs - bones, muscles, shape of mouth, diaphragm, etc. Don't control and restrict your muscles when you produce a sound. Study how Lea Salonga sings. By not restricting your facial muscles to produce a sound, you will be able to pronounce the lyric well.

Produce a good sound

Study the sound you produce. When you instruct yourself to produce a good sound, your voice will obey. Just say to your self, "good sound" and you will produce that good sound.

Vocalize

Vocalize every day. Warm your vocal chords with warm water to make your tissues softer and more stretchable.

Power up the volume of your voice

On stage, imagine throwing your voice to the end of the auditorium as if talking to a person who is 100 meters away from you. If the person you're talking to is at the end of the hall, would you not speak louder in order to be heard? Also, practice singing in an open field, public park or any open space, roof top, or balcony of a building.

Sing with dynamics

Apply softness and loudness to your song. Don't sing loudly or softly from the first to the last note. There has to be notes that are sung softly, moderately, and very softly. Some notes should be loud, very loud or moderately loud. It has to be a mixture of everything in order not to be boring. Exhibit in one song the use of the different types of tones - head tones, chest tones, throat, and sparingly, nasal tones - whenever applicable.

Seek your diaphragm's support

If you lack diaphragm support, you tend to go flat. Don't lose that air in your diaphragm if you don't want to sing out of tune. If you want to sustain a long note, stock lots of air in your diaphragm.

Prepare to reach a high note

If you're unlikely to reach a high note, use the same technique when hitting the first note - preparation. If you're already near a high note, prepare your mind by singing in your head the high note. Once the high note is already in your brain, your vocal chords has no choice but to obey the brain. Also try flexing your foot to reach a high note.

Hating Kapatid: GMA Network's Short Film For Christmas

"Hating Kapatid" is a touching short film about two brothers who share the same pair of shoes and socks when going to school. One attends classes in the morning; the other in the afternoon. They meet in one store owned by an old woman where they exchange their footwear.

Endless Love - A Filipino Adaptation of Autumn in My Heart

Courtesy pinoyhalo.com "Autumn in My Heart" is a Korean TV series. When GMA Network aired it on Philippine TV, it started a trend. Pinoys went gaga over Koreanovelas. GMA renamed the characters as Jenny, Johnny, and Andrew. The three Korean stars became popular in their character names rather than in their Korean screen names. GMA7 also gave it a new title - "Endless Love" - for the reason that there's no autumn in the Philippines. Today premieres once again Autumn in my Heart aka Endless Love but this time as a Filipino adaptation starring Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, and Dennis Trillo. Three superstars in one show! It's surely a hit. If I were to rewrite some scenes in Autumn In My Heart In general, I enjoyed the pilot episode of Autumn In My Heart. I particularly like the scene where young Johnny and Jenny ride their bicycles on a long brick road fenced with bougainvilla bushes. I give praise to whoever found that place. The school location w

"Mahal Kita"

Here's another favorite song. "Mahal Kita", which means "I love you" was composed by Danny Tan. The original version was sung by Gerald Santos, Pinoy Pop Superstar grand champion of 2006. The female version was sung by Maricris Garcia, Pinoy Pop Superstar grand champion of 2007. The song is included in Gerald's first album "A Day on the Rainbow". The song is currently the love theme song of "Marimar", a Philippine remake of the Mexican tele-novela with the same title. In the Philippine version, Marian Rivera plays Marimar; Dingdong Dantes plays the the role of Sergio Santibanez. In Marimar, the female version is a response to the male version of the song. In dramatic scenes that focus on either Marimar's (Marian) or Sergio's (Dingdong) emotions, you'll either hear Gerald's or Maricris's version. "Marimar" is currently showing weeknights on GMA Channel 7. Here's Gerald's version of "Mahal Kita&q
