The Great 8

Who will be out of the Idol tonight?

Last night's performances of the top 8 were OK. Two of them I consider exceptional. Indeed, the remaining Idol hopefuls have improved a lot. Penelope and Daryl Celis did their job well. Ram Chaves had a bad beginning but nailed it on the second part of his song. Penelope has learned the dynamics of singing. That's good. Daryl started singing from his heart. That's also good. But next time, he should open his mouth well so that he could pronounce the words well and modulate his voice. Noticeably, when he's singing with the group, he barely opens his mouth.

So who will be eliminated tonight?

But before that, let's see how the cast-outs were doing. JJ Jr. performed in SOP (GMA7). He looked promising. He can be a popular young celebrity. Jeni Rawolle on the other hand, was singing ahead of the time signature. When singing with a group, she should learn how to sing in unison.

I thought Kid Camaya or Jayann would be out of the Idol, but I was wrong. I thought Kid, who is showing an attitude, would follow the footsteps of Robby Navarro. Stay humble, kid.

Toffer Rei or Daryl Celis? Daryl Celis is crowd drawer because of his looks. But he's in the bottom two right now. Toffer competes with his fellow rocker Warren Antig and Ram Chavez which can be a disadvantage for him.

Indeed, the Philippines had to pick the best among the three rockers; and the Philippines picked Ram and Warren. Goodbye, Toffer Rei.

Here's one good performance of Toffer Rei. Unless Toffer improves his diction, he should stick to singing Tagalog songs.

Hating Kapatid: GMA Network's Short Film For Christmas

"Hating Kapatid" is a touching short film about two brothers who share the same pair of shoes and socks when going to school. One attends classes in the morning; the other in the afternoon. They meet in one store owned by an old woman where they exchange their footwear.

Endless Love - A Filipino Adaptation of Autumn in My Heart

Courtesy pinoyhalo.com "Autumn in My Heart" is a Korean TV series. When GMA Network aired it on Philippine TV, it started a trend. Pinoys went gaga over Koreanovelas. GMA renamed the characters as Jenny, Johnny, and Andrew. The three Korean stars became popular in their character names rather than in their Korean screen names. GMA7 also gave it a new title - "Endless Love" - for the reason that there's no autumn in the Philippines. Today premieres once again Autumn in my Heart aka Endless Love but this time as a Filipino adaptation starring Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, and Dennis Trillo. Three superstars in one show! It's surely a hit. If I were to rewrite some scenes in Autumn In My Heart In general, I enjoyed the pilot episode of Autumn In My Heart. I particularly like the scene where young Johnny and Jenny ride their bicycles on a long brick road fenced with bougainvilla bushes. I give praise to whoever found that place. The school location w

The Twist That Protégé Jensen Turned Gold Into A Stone

The Final 5 Before The Twist Lovely performed well that night but she was eliminated. On the other hand, Nomer was too young for "Bohemian Rhapsody". It was just right if he was eliminated based on that night's performance. So, the final Five were Jensen, Lirah, So Wat, Krizza, and Kenneth. Based on the group's performance, So Wat could have been eliminated but text votes saved them. The Twist That Saved Lovely and Nomer The twist was to call back the 5 Protégés who were earlier eliminated. The five contenders battled for a second chance. As a result, Nomer and Lovely were called back. The next night was a double elimination night. The seven Protégés performed well that night except for So Wat. Kenneth and Lirah's performances were just average. So Wat was bombarded with negative remarks. The twist did not favor Kenneth and So Wat. They were eliminated that night; and there was no second chance for them. The twist favored Nomer and Lovely. They are now pa
