Most Ridiculous Urban Legends

Tonight's episode of "Ang Pinaka" (Rovilson Fernandez, QTV) listed the most ridiculous Pinoy urban legends.

  1. Worm burger. When Jollibee, a burger fastfood, was making waves in the market, rumor spread that its burger was actually worm meat. That rumor affected its sales but it recovered after some time. The fastfood chain proved that they're using 100% beef. In fact, worm meat was more expensive than beef.
  2. Alien abduction in Mt. Banahaw. Mt. Banahaw is a mystical mountain where many cult groups live. The many stories about Mt. Banahaw made this mountain popular and a favorite tourist destination especially among mountaineers.
  3. The girl born with a fish as her twin. This was a tabloid story made more popular by a showbiz talk show hosted by Inday Badiday.
  4. Bongbong Marcos is dead. During the martial law era, Bongbong, the son of Ferdinand Marcos, was rumored killed in UK and that the Bongbong who was alive was a fake - a cousin who was a look-a-like perfected by surgery.
  5. Acid throwing attacks in public jeepneys. A legend in the late 60's or early 70's that scared commuters taking the public jeepneys.
  6. Ghosts in hospitals. This type of story is everywhere.
  7. Rizal was Jack the Ripper. This is something I heard only now.
  8. Baby's blood for San Juanico bridge. I think this story was to discredit Mme. Imelda Marcos.
  9. Missing children in Pampanga. Heard of it then but I don't exactly know the whole story, why they were missing.
  10. The Romblon triangle. I think this is similar to Bermuda triangle where ships and planes mysteriously disappear.
There are other urban legends that I heard of when I was younger.

  • The giant snake at Robinson's mall. According to stories, the fitting room was a trap to prey food for the snake. Once inside, the floor opens and the person goes directly to a basement where the giant snake stays. I still remember Alice Dixson, an actress, attesting to this. I wonder if she's sticking to her words until now.
  • The OXO gang. A gang marks you wing OXO using a needle. The needle was said to contain something lethal.
  • The "manananggal" in Sampaloc. This is another tabloid story.

Dyesebel Learns the Truth

Week 2 Episodes The next episodes after the first week were not as exciting as the first few days. In a few words, I can give you the synopsis. Dyesebel was able to save Fredo and hid him inside a cave. Bukanding (Paolo Ballesteros), her foster brother, persuaded her to go home for fear of the queen's punishment. Back to the cave, they found out that Fredo was bitten by a sea snake. Dyesebel left to look for cure. While she was gone, Berbola found Fredo inside the cave. She, too, fell in love with Fredo. In Sireneya, the queen learned about mermaids swimming up to the shore (which is forbidden). The queen had them hunted. Erebus (Alfred Vargas) warned Dyesebel and Bukanding that they were able to leave the cave and went to a shore where Fredo recovered. Berbola pointed at Dyesebel as the mermaid who violated the law. Dyesebel was sentenced to death; but Erebus told the queen that Berbula, too, was guilty of the same crime. The queen could not sentence her daughter Berbula to death....

Hating Kapatid: GMA Network's Short Film For Christmas

"Hating Kapatid" is a touching short film about two brothers who share the same pair of shoes and socks when going to school. One attends classes in the morning; the other in the afternoon. They meet in one store owned by an old woman where they exchange their footwear.
