Starstruck V Dance Challenge

Douglas Nieras, the Starstruck's dance mentor, chose two pairs to dance hiphop: Rocco & Diva, and Sef & Nina. Rocco and Diva danced better because they were dancing together. Nina and Sef were like dancing individually. Diva did better than Nina on stage; Nina however was praised more during the rehearsals. Perhaps, Nina had jitters on stage. Rocco was naturally confident and relax on stage. Sef's moves tend to be calculated. In the Ballroom challenge, the two pairs chosen to perform on stage were: Rocco & Rox, and Enzo & Diva. Enzo and Diva danced well. Rocco & Rox's performance was boring. As beginners though, they all did well. The Bottom Three The bottom three are: Princess, for missing one dance class; though he did well on the dance floor, Sef was in the bottom three for some reasons; and Zeryl, who missed the dance lessons for health reasons. Stand Outs At this point, Rocco is a stand out. He's charming, has the masculine manly appeal. His eye

Starstruck V Top 30

Some of the faces that made it to the Starstruck V Top 30. Some of them looked promising but didn't make it to the next level. They have a year to improve their craft and audition again next year. The Top 30 does not include those who auditioned abroad.

Starstruck V Auditions

After two years, GMA Network brings back to television its original reality TV - Starstruck. In Starstruck I, Dingdong Dantes and Nancy Castiliogne hosted the phenomenal event. Starstruck I produced talents like Jennilyn Mercado, Mark Herras, Rainier Castillo, Yasmin Kurdi, Katrina Halili, Kristine Reyes, Sheena Halili, Tyron Perez, Dion Ignacio, and Nadine Samonte. That year, F4 of Taiwan was popular, thus the F4 hairdo was also popular among young guys. Rainier Castillo, who was supporting an F4 look, was a crowd drawer. For that reason, the rival network, also tried to produce the same personality in the person of Hero Angeles, who is now with GMA Network. (One of the castaways of Survivor 2 was Justine, a transexual. For that reason, PBB also included a transexual.) Starstruck II was hosted by Dingdong Dantes and Jolina Magdangal. Nancy Castiliogne moved to ABS-CBN. It produced talents like LJ Reyes and Mike Tan. Dingdong and Jolina continued to host Starstruck III, which produced

Most Ridiculous Urban Legends

Tonight's episode of "Ang Pinaka" (Rovilson Fernandez, QTV) listed the most ridiculous Pinoy urban legends. Worm burger. When Jollibee, a burger fastfood, was making waves in the market, rumor spread that its burger was actually worm meat. That rumor affected its sales but it recovered after some time. The fastfood chain proved that they're using 100% beef. In fact, worm meat was more expensive than beef. Alien abduction in Mt. Banahaw. Mt. Banahaw is a mystical mountain where many cult groups live. The many stories about Mt. Banahaw made this mountain popular and a favorite tourist destination especially among mountaineers. The girl born with a fish as her twin. This was a tabloid story made more popular by a showbiz talk show hosted by Inday Badiday.  Bongbong Marcos is dead. During the martial law era, Bongbong, the son of Ferdinand Marcos, was rumored killed in UK and that the Bongbong who was alive was a fake - a cousin who was a look-a-like perfected by sur

Stupid Scenes I Would Never Ever Want To See Again

Mulawin Palpak si Pagaspas Pagaspas was about to kill Siklab. Daragit hostaged Lourdes, Pagaspas's foster mother. Daragit threatened to kill Lourdes. Pagaspas gave in. Another stupid move by a hero. Daragit did not free his hostage. Instead, he had all the Mulawins captured and killed by sunrise. Pagaspas was in a company of a bunch of Mulawins. They outnumbered the Ravenas. It could have been a win for the Mulawins. But the Mulawins just stood there and did nothing. Pagaspas could have hostaged Siklab and dealt with Daragit with a kaliwaan deal. Free their hostages at the same time. Or, the so-called sugo Almiro was there. He could have made a heroic move but he did not. Puede naman siyang lumipad pataas, then slain the ravenas from behind. Bi-Polar Si Almiro Gabriel decided to save Avila. Like band of brothers, Gabriel and Almiro together fought the Ravenas even if their races are enemies. After all, they were like father and son when Almiro was young. Then Almiro l

Zorro: Pilot Episode

4.5 Stars Overall, I'd give the pilot episode of Zorro 4.5 stars. I love the location. It's perfect for scenes. The production must be again expensive. I hail GMA Network for investing on such a good production and, likewise, for giving its viewers de-calidad entertainment. The Zorro production is by far the best of Richard Gutierrez's tele-novelas. Mulawin, however, remains my favorite because it was an original concept. For an authentic Filipino production design, Sugo is my favorite. Other Richard Gutierrez's tele-novelas were Mulawin (with Angel Locsin and Dennis Trillo), Sugo (with Isabel Oli) , Captain Barbell (with Rhian Ramos), Kamandag (with Maxene Magalona and Jewel Mische), and Asero (with Heart Evangelista). Just A Flaw That Caught My Eye The pilot episode however was not without a flaw. From the roof, Zorro grabbed meters of cloth para paglambitinan niya pababa. Kaya lang, nilobo ng hangin ang tela, na hindi dapat, kasi nakalambitin dito si Zorro.

Pacquiao cum ABS-CBN vs Solar cum GMA

Background Manny Pacquiao recently expressed his desire to air his fight with Hatton on ABS-CBN; thus, intended to terminate his promotion group's contract with Solar. As a result of that, the Paguiao-Hatton fight will be aired on ABS-CBN instead of on GMA. According to the official statement of GMA aired in the news, ABS-CBN promised Pacquiao to make him win from the coming congressional elections if he would give to ABS-CBN the right to air his fight. In the same statement, it stated that GMA did not make any similar offer because it was against the law for a media network to help any political candidate win the elections. Yesterday, representatives of Solar Network flew to LA to talk with Pacquiao. As of this writing, the legal representative of Pacquiao issued a statement that his promotion's contract with Solar was still binding, thus, the fight would be aired on GMA7. Pacquiao apologized to the public for the confusion that was brought about by the misunderstanding betwee

Dare Duo

Dare Duo is a new reality TV show which airs every Saturday at 8:10 PM on QTV (Channel 11 in Metro Manila, Channel 15 on cables). Rovilson Fernandez and Marc Nelson hosts the show. They are also the ones who perform the challenges given by selected viewers. In the first episode, a maid of honor challenged Marc and Rov to organize a bridal shower. In the second episode, airing as of this writing, a restaurant ownder dared the two to fish in the sea, sort the fish while in the boat, carry tons of fish to the port, and sell them in the Navotas Fish Port. Rov and Marc, who are best friends in real life, are a good duo. They have the right chemistry. Rov, who speaks with a British accent, is comic; while Marc, who speaks with a slight Australian accent, is the serious type of guy. Rov is a Filipino who grew up in the UK. Marc is Cuban-Australian who decided to pursue a modeling career in the Philippines. He was discovered while surfing in the Philippines. He's a Bench model that intr

New Shows on QTV

QTV (GMA Network, Philippines) has some good shows to offer. Aside from "Ang Pinaka" (Rovilson Fernandez hosts), "Chef to Go" (Chef Rob Pengson, host) is another favorite. Just by watching the show, I learned a lot of things about cooking. Sadly the show had to give way to "Secrets of the Masters", also a culinary show which is equally worth watching. I, myself, am amazed how these chef masters of the Philippines prepare food in a extraordinary but practical way. Cooking "adobo", for example, one of the Master Chefs placed all ingredients together over a low fire. That reminded me of how my mother used to cook "asado". Other shows worth watching are "Dare Duo" and "QTube". Dare Duo is a reality TV hosted by Rovilson Fernandez and Marc Nelson where Rov and Marc take a challenge each episode. Qtube, a techy-internet show that features everything on the Internet. QTube is hosted by Andi Smith and Andy Manzano. Andi or

Kaleidoscope World by Francis M.

Francis Magalona passed away this March 6, 2009 at 12:00 noon. Francis M. is best remembered with his composition "Mga Kababayan" - a rap about Pinoy nationalism. This song elevated OPM (original Pilipino music) to a higher level that even the alta sociedad has loved to listen to. Francis M is best know as the Master Rapper. His songs always express values like love, unity, and nationalism contrasting most raps that do not make sense. Francis M was also known as Kiko. His music and culture has been known as Francism, based on his name Francis M. You can read Kiko's blog at. magalona.com  where he wrote about his battle against the killer cancer leukemia.  [Photo credits: www.igma.tv  ] My favorite among Kiko's songs is Kaleidoscope World. You can watch its beautiful video  here at YouTube . The lyric follows. Kaleidoscope World by Francis M.
